Book highlights Kiwanis social work in Jamaica
The Kiwanis movement is one of the leading institutions in Jamaica providing myriad social services voluntarily. The rich history of Kiwanis in this country is told in the book, Kiwanis in Jamaica 1964-2009. Edited by Patrick E Bryan, retired UWI professor of history, the book highlights, among other things, the objects and code of Kiwanis International (of which Jamaica is one of its strongest members), the outstanding contributions of Kiwanis to Jamaica’s social and economic development, formation and growth of Kiwanis in Jamaica and the work of Kiwanis International Foundation of Jamaica.

Kiwanis Wandsworth Haiti Earthquake Appeal
Kiwanis Wandsworth want to do their part:
You will have undoubtedly seen in the news that on Tuesday 12th January a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck , including the densely populated capital . Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere, greatly increasing the chances that people will die in the aftermath of a natural disaster and with the quake hitting at 4.53 PM local time, the start of rush hour when Port-au-Prince’s narrow streets are filled with commuters and school children, it probably couldn’t have struck at a worse time. It’s feared the death toll will rise above 200,000.

Kiwanis is a global organization of member-volunteers who are dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.
Kiwanis members dedicate more than 18 million volunteer hours and invest more than US$107 million annually in projects that strengthen communities and serve children. We help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged and care for the sick. We develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds, raise funds for pediatric research and much more. BWIA’s turbulent history
1939 to 2006
Published on May 20, 2012, 9:40 pm AST
MANY airlines have crashed over the years.
Some due to high operating costs, and the unwillingness of governments to subsidise the cost of air passenger travel.
Others, because of internal disputes.
In the case of Trinidad and Tobago, British West Indian Airways (BWIA) almost crashed in 1962 when British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) was brokering a deal with Jamaica to establish an airline with that country.
Against the backdrop of the collapse of the West Indian Federation in 1962, Trinidad and Tobago experienced fallout with Barbados over the regional carrier, BWIA.

Chambers of Travel

Santa Cruz, Calif., travel agent Scott Pinheiro was so annoyed with his local chamber of commerce for marketing an Eastern Europe package tour this spring without involving a local agency that he organized a competing package that offers one more day abroad for a few dollars less.
Pinheiro feels betrayed. His agency, Santa Cruz Travel, is a longtime member of the chamber, and he himself is a past president. He first found himself at odds with the group last year when it launched an extensive series of tours to China. Over 14 months, 870 members and their family and friends took part in the trips.

“It was the greatest gift I’ve ever gotten,” said Quinlan.
Born with a heart defect that reduces blood flow to the lungs, Michaela was prone to illness and tired more easily than her playmates, her mother said.

Kiwanians empower teen mothers
ALL WOMAN Monday, March 21, 2016 ,
ALTHOUGH adolescent pregnancy rates have been trending down, according to statistics from the Women’s Centre of Jamaica Foundation (WCJF), this issue remains a contributing factor to the disruption of teenage girls’ educational pursuits. As such, with this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD) celebrated under the theme, ‘Pledge for Parity’, the Kiwanis Club of Young Professionals, Kingston, staged a panel discussion to empower adolescent mothers to achieve their dreams and to provide positive role models.
